(** facilities also available for sand volleyball, horseshoe pitching…)
As you can see this will be a very busy weekend. Friday night we have booked the Jim Rice Band from Lewellen. Jim has spent several years in Nashville and will provide a very entertaining evening of dance music. Saturday will feature a young lady from Ogallala "Lexi Moul". This will kick off her summer concert performance prior to moving to Nashville to start her recording career. We hope you will all gather to visit with your former classmates and enjoy the great music provided by these incredibly talented local young people. There will be a beer garden both nights, for those who chose to take part.
TIME CAPSULE BURIAL!!
Burial of a time capsule is being planned for the Sunday of the celebration with the intent to raise the capsule in 2034 when the capsule placed at the 100th celebration will be opened. We are currently working with the school students as they look 25 years into the future. We encourage everyone to place something into the vault but ask that you consider the limited space when selecting your items. Please bring your items with you to the Sunday activities. The committee extends a huge thank you to Gubser Funeral Home for donating the vault for the time capsule. Please extend your thanks to them for their generosity!

VETERAN’S MEMORIAL
Work on the Big Springs Veterans' Memorial is moving steadily ahead, with the concrete pad and walkway being poured this past week. The names of approximately 570 veterans have been submitted for engraving. To date, donations totaling approximately $55,000 have been given toward the projected $69,000 goal. The committee is proud of their accomplishments and looks forward to the dedication at 1:30 pm on Sunday, May 24th. Once dedicated, the committee will continue to work throughout the summer on landscaping and completion of the park area. The names of all Big Springs veterans will appear on the monuments in addition to the names of any other veterans, with a $100 donation. Please look over the list you received in the mail - if you or any of your family have been omitted, please call Ron Hendrickson at (308) 889-3681 or Susan McGreer at (308) 289-5534 immediately! Our deadline for placement of names is April 13th. After that date, name will be added only once or twice a year at a much higher cost.
We would like to thank all those who have so generously given to this project. If yuo would like to help us reach our goal, your tax deductible donation can be sent to: Big Springs Community Foundation, PO Box 436, Big Springs, NE 69122.
The committee would also like to thank all those who helped with site preparation and concrete work. For fear of missing someone we will not list names - but hope you all know how much your help means to all involved. Without people like you - this project would not be possible!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
OLD PHOTOS STILL NEEDED!!
You still have time to get your old photographs submitted for use in the public display at the memorial hall. These pictures will also be copied to a CD and will be available for purchase that weekend.
Thank you to everyone who has submitted pictures for public display. A huge thanks to our local historians - Klint Schlake and Marvin and Marietta for their many hours compiling information. Another huge thank you to Bernard Armstrong for painting a wonderful mural and two awesome pictures of UPRR Trains for our display! After the celebration - these will be placed in the new village meeting room and kept for posterity! THANK YOU EVERYONE!
BAND ENTHUSIAST FLOAT!!
Our new music teacher has tossed out the idea of having an alumni band float for the parade! We've had a couple of people respond favorably but would like to have a few more bodies to round out the band. If you would be willing to bring your instrument and practice for an hour or so on a simple piece of music (maybe school song!) and then ride through the parade, please let us know ASAP. We will contact you later to set up a practice schedule!
ARE YOU AN AUTHOR OR ILLUSTRATOR?
Big Springs High School has had a number of graduates/residents who have written and/or illustrated their own publications over the years. If you are one of these talented people and would like to display and/or sell copies of your works, an area will be made available for you in the Memorial Hall to do so. Let us know so we can make sure we have enough space reserved!!
ARE YOU A CRAFTER??
All crafters are invited to bring their wares for display and sell the weekend of the celebration. There is no fee to do this and you will be responsible for your own materials and area. This will have to be set up either along the sidewalk at the Swimming Pool Park or in Eiker Park and no electrical will be available.
FAMILY HISTORY BOOKS!
Thank you to everyone who submitted family information and/or pictures for our history book. A limited number of these will be printed so please get your orders in early. Cost for the books will be $25.00 including sales tax
